Zombie Crisis: Director's Cut is a standalone total conversion and the successor to the original Zombie Crisis originally released in 2008. It is available as a standalone build for Windows and is also available for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and can be also be used with the PlayStation Vita's PSP support. The standalone release will offer a simple "drag and drop" setup process for Windows and PSP with signed EBOOTs.
The Zombie Crisis: Director's Cut aims to remedy some of the missing potential from the original release and will add more variety to the game in the form of a major quality of life update, while it is not a sequel (and shouldn't be thought of as one) it will help gauge people's interest to potentially develop a true successor to the game. I've been able to update the majority of the game's systems, including a complete re-balance of enemy and weapon values and adding new features to the game and all levels will be using updated and remixed versions of the original releases maps. My hope is post-release interest from the community will inspire volunteers who would want to help make a new episode for the game that could take full advantage of the updates and provide a new experience while staying true to the game's core theme and concepts.
Updates and features thus far for the Director's Cut:
- (PSP) New tech! A new source port resolves practically all issues from the original release and provides a solid and feature complete experience.
- (PSP) New “FPS” control scheme with re-mappable buttons provides the best experience yet. Also includes the original control scheme as an option for those that prefer it.
- Ludicrous gibs! Enemy effects have been dramatically tweaked and enhanced with more over the top blood and gore to enhance the campy atmosphere.
- New weapons! Use the new assault rifle, sub-machine gun with grenade launcher and the shotgun along with updates like the M14 and of course the classic chainsaw to push back the undead hordes.
- New enemy! A new zombie type with tweaked AI adds an extra challenge and provides variety to the experience.
- New but familiar! All levels have been updated and optimized for the new Director’s Cut additions and features.
The PlayStation Portable release of Zombie Crisis: Director's Cut has a signed EBOOT which should theoretically allow the game to be ran on any PSP system regardless if it's running custom firmware or not. The EBOOT was signed in hopes of making installation as painless as possible for players to allow them to enjoy the game without issue. For use on the PlayStation Vita however a modded console with custom firmware is still required as the emulated PSP will need direct file access to copy the game data to a specific directory to run the homebrew.
Tested on Windows, PSP-1000/2000/3000 and PSP Go/N1000 model consoles as well as PlayStation Vita model PCH-1101 running custom firmware.
Known issues:
On the PSP version it will swap to your melee weapon after running out of ammo, as a workaround you can use the up and down buttons on the dpad to swap back to your M14 rifle. Issue not known to effect the Windows version.
